Servings: 45
Prep time: 15 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Ingredients
Start with a few basic ingredients from the grocery store.
- Oreo thins or any other thin chocolate cookie
- White chocolate melting wafers or white chocolate bark
- Peppermint extract, optional
- Peppermint candies or candy canes (crushed into small pieces)
Instructions
1. Separate the Oreo thins and gently scrape off the Oreo cream with a butter knife.
2. Prepare a baking sheet or large tray with parchment paper and set aside.
3. Place the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl, microwave until melted, stirring every 15 seconds.
4. When the chocolate coating is completely melted add in the peppermint extract and stir.
5. Dip the cookies one at a time into the melted chocolate, using a fork gently flip over and scoop the chocolate on top of the cookie to give it a solid covering.
6. Allow the excess chocolate to drip from the cookie before placing it on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
7. Sprinkle with the crushed peppermint candies, work quickly as the chocolate will harden as it dries.
8. Let the chocolate set by leaving them out at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Tips and Tricks
- Put the cookies in the fridge if you want them to set up faster.
- Store in an airtight container for 5-6 days on the counter. Or place cookies between pieces of parchment paper and store in the freezer.
- You can skip the crushed peppermints if you want.
- Oreo thins break very easily so be extra gentle while separating them.
- Want to make a savory version? Try this recipe with Ritz crackers!
- The peppermint extract gives these a peppermint flavor but you could also use vanilla extract or almond extract.
- Dark chocolate, pure milk chocolate or semi sweet chocolate chips may be used coat the cookies for that chocolate flavor.
