Supplies
- Alphabet blocks โ You will need three blocks per snowman: one for the snowman’s head, one for the body, and one for the base.
- Acrylic paint โ I used black, orange, and white nontoxic acrylic paint.
- Paintbrush โ A small paintbrush makes it easy to paint tiny snowman features, but you may want a larger one to cover the blocks.
- Fabric scraps โ To add a scarf and other accessories.
- Mod Podge โ This trusty decoupage glue seals and protects your project with a shiny finish.

Instructions
1. Gather your blocks. Make sure to have three blocks for each snowman.
Tip: Get wooden alphabet blocks online, from a toy store, or local thrift store. Or cut your own 2×2 blocks from wood purchased at the hardware store.

2. Give the blocks a few coats of white paint. Let dry.

3. Add snowman features onto one block, using black paint for the eyes and mouth and orange paint for a carrot nose. Paint three black buttons on another block.
Tip: For more control, use a black marker to add the facial features and buttons and make the nose out of orange cardstock. You can even use stencils for crisp shapes.
4. Seal the blocks using Mod Podge or a Varathane sealer to add shine and durability.

Now have fun accessorizing! Wrap a bit of scrap fabric or piece of yarn around the snowmanโs neck as a cozy scarf, add a little top hat or toque made from patterned cardstock, or use a bit of hot glue to give your snowman stick arms.
You can truly customize each snowman however you want. The possibilities are endless!

Now have fun stacking and moving blocks and the snowman around. Place them back-to-back for fun scenes or hang them with a piece of twine as awesome DIY holiday gifts.
I mean, how adorable is this alphabet block snowman?! We made these alphabet block snowman ornaments recently too!

Tips and Tricks
- Use pipe cleaners or sticks for arms for a playful twist and extra fun flair.
- Cut a cereal box into shapes for mini hats and accessories โ itโs a great substitute for cardstock.
- Add a touch of sparkle by brushing a thin layer of Mod Podge mixed with glitter over the snowmanโs body.
- If your kids are younger, have them wear a smock to protect clothes from stray acrylic paint splatters.
- Or instead of paint, use pencils, pens, or markers to add details.
- To make ornaments, twist a metal coil, paper clip, or eye hook into the top for hanging.
- For a keepsake version, let each child draw different faces on their snowmen โ itโs adorable to see their personalities show in each snowmanโs expression!

My kids know that they can go into the craft room anytime and find all sorts of things that will help them get creative! Keeping things organized and stocked up is always helpful, because then they can easily find any supplies that they may need.
We tend to run out of hot glue sticks most often and I am always having to make a trip to the dollar store to pick up more!
