Christmas Rice Krispie Squares Recipe

This Christmas rice krispie recipe is a super easy treat to make and is perfectly festive for the holiday season! We love to serve them at our Elf Party and they make a great addition to our Holiday Cookie Exchange.

What are Rice Krispie Treats anyway?

Rice krispie treats are primarily made of rice krispies cereal, melted butter and mini marshmallows. These Christmas squares are made even more fun with the addition of festive sprinkles and M&Ms.

How to make Christmas Rice Krispies squares

This easy holiday treat can be personalized with a wide variety of festive ingredients! Try adding: green food coloring to the chocolate, marshmallow fluff, white chocolate chips, a candy cane, red candy melts instead of white or other kinds of holiday sprinkles!

Ingredients

  • Salted butter
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Rice Krispies cereal
  • Mini marshmallows, reserved
  • White candy melts
  • Festive holiday sprinkles
  • Red and green M&Ms

Instructions

1. In large saucepan melt butter over medium-low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat.

2. Add rice krispie cereal. Stir until the cereal mixture is well combined.

3. Add remaining mini marshmallows and half of the Christmas sprinkles. Stir until just incorporated.

4. Spread the rice krispie mixture into a greased 9 x 9 inch baking dish.

5. In a small, microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate at 15 second intervals, stirring in between until smooth.

6. Drizzle chocolate over the top of the rice krispie mixture, top with remaining sprinkles and M&Ms.

7. Place in the fridge to cool and allow the chocolate to harden before cutting into bars.

Tips for making these Christmas treats

  • Adding mini marshmallows at the end makes these squares extra gooey and decadent.
  • When adding sprinkles to the mixture, be sure not to over mix otherwise the color will start to come off of the sprinkles and tint your squares.

Store these yummy treats in a large freezer bag or airtight container for up to two weeks at room temperature. They can also be stored in the fridge or freezer (if they last that long).
