Tips and Tricks:

  • If you don’t want to mix the dough by hand, put everything into the bowl of a stand mixer and use the dough hook attachment. Alternatively, you could also use a bread machine.
  • Substitute some of the white flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Instead of sesame seeds, try topping the buns with poppy seeds or bagel seasoning.
  • If you are at all unsure about the freshness of your yeast, test it before you start your recipe. There is nothing worse than having to throw your dough out because the yeast was no good.
  • Store buns in an airtight container at room temperature. If you want to make them ahead of time, they can also be frozen for up to 3 months.

While this recipe makes the perfect hamburger bun, you can also make smaller dinner rolls or hot dog buns with the dough. Make whatever shape or size you want, adjusting the baking time as needed.

Use them for pulled pork sandwiches, sloppy joes, or eat them hot and fresh from the oven. You truly can’t go wrong.
