Celebrate Halloween with the Sanderson sisters and fun Hocus Pocus snacks, like these brownies.

We are super excited for the release of the new Hocus Pocus movie this year! To celebrate, I have created all sorts of nostalgic treats; like these Sanderson sister rice krispies, Hocus Pocus punch, spellbook brownies, Jinx the cat cookies, zombie Billy chocolate dipped pretzels, and a whole Hocus Pocus dessert board.

A Hocus Pocus Refresher

The Sanderson sisters are the main characters of the 1993 film, Hocus Pocus. They run amuck with their evil spellbook and henchmen Billy Butcherson while hunting children and turning one into Binx, an immortal black cat.

If, like our family, your October isnโ€™t complete without watching the Sanderson sisters cackle their way through Salem, then you need these Hocus Pocus spellbook brownies in your life. Theyโ€™re fudgy, spooky, and ridiculously easy to make, even in the middle of a chaotic Halloween party planning session.

Why Youโ€™ll Love This Recipe

These Hocus Pocus book brownies are as fun to make as they are to eat! And you only need a handful of ingredients, most of which are probably already in your pantry.

The base is a chewy, gooey, time-saving boxed brownie mix. Once baked and cooled, youโ€™ll dress the brownies up with black decorating icing or melted chocolate, adding spellbook โ€œscarsโ€ and a single creepy candy eye to bring the look together.

They’re festive, flavorful, and practically scream October magic. Best of all? These little book brownies always steal the show and disappear faster than a Sanderson sister at sunrise.

Yes! If you have a favorite brownie recipe, feel free to use that. Just make sure it’s one that results in thick, chewy bars so you still get that book shape.

Can I make these Hocus Pocus brownies ahead of time?
Absolutely. These keep well at room temperature for a few days or can be frozen for up to 3 monthsโ€”just hold off on adding the candy eye until youโ€™re ready to serve.

What can I use instead of black candy melts?
Black decorating icing, chocolate chips melted with black gel food coloring, or even store-bought black cookie frosting all work like a charm.

Are these brownies kid-friendly?
Yes! Theyโ€™re a hit at school parties, and kids love helping decorate with the spooky spellbook โ€œscars.โ€

Can I double this recipe for a crowd?
You bet. Just use a 9×13″ pan, bake a few minutes longer, and slice into 24 spellbook pieces instead of 12.

Can I make these Hocus Pocus spellbook brownies gluten free?
Yes! Just swap the Betty Crocker brownie mix for a gluten-free brownie mix, and make sure your black candy melts and candy eyes are labeled gluten-free too. The result is just as chewy, chocolatey, and spooky!
