Supplies
Begin by stocking the kitchen with a few of my favorite supplies!
- Large dutch oven or pot – I love this white enamel, cast iron dutch oven.
- Wooden spoon – perfect for stirring the spaghetti sauce.
- Measuring cups & spoons – for measuring out our ingredients.
- Henckle knife – good for carving mozza ball eyes.
Ingredients
- Spaghetti noodles
- Homemade pasta sauce
- Lean ground beef, cooked (optional)
- Bocconcini cheese balls
- Black olives, sliced
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook noodles according to package directions, until al dente. Drain thoroughly.
2. Add sauce and meat to the cooked spaghetti. Stir to combine.
3. Plate the spaghetti, add several bocconcini and top with olive slices to create “eyes”.
Serve with these fun Halloween ghost breadsticks or Halloween mummy garlic bread!
Variations
- If your family doesn’t enjoy meat sauce, leave out the ground beef and serve your pasta with a simple marinara sauce instead.
- Use your favorite pasta sauce from the store instead of homemade.
- Try squid ink pasta. The black spaghetti noodles will add that extra Halloween touch.
- Substitute green olives for the black olives.
- Give the eyeballs a bloodshot look by adding a dot of pasta sauce onto each ball of mozzarella before adding the sliced black olives.
- Instead of mozzarella eyeballs, make meatball eyeballs. You could also use string cheese that has been cut into small pieces.
Tips and Tricks
- An easy way to make this spooky Halloween spaghetti recipe even more fun is to add 20-25 drops of food coloring to the pasta water. Try green food coloring for green noodles or drops of purple food coloring for purple pasta.
- To create individual servings of eyeball spaghetti for a Halloween party, portion out your pasta and sauce into small bowls, then top each bowl with one large eyeball or three small eyeballs. You could even make mini eyeball skewers!
- I love time-saving tricks! For this meal, using jarred tomato sauce and frozen pre-made meatballs is a great option for saving time and energy.
