Easy Pepperoni Pizza Skewers

These pepperoni pizza skewers make the perfect appetizer for sharing at your next party or gathering.  My boys are huge fans of anything with the word “pizza” in it so I knew that these pizza skewers would be a huge hit with them.

Easy Pizza Skewer Breadsticks

Friday nights seem like the ideal time for a simple recipe. We’re all tired from a busy week and want quick, easy comfort food.

Today’s recipe for easy homemade breadsticks fits the bill. They are a great addition to any pizza night.

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this post to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there when you’re ready!

Who can resist warm, chewy breadsticks straight out the oven? Top them with a cheesy, garlic mixture and herb seasoning, and you can’t lose.

The best part is, with just a few simple ingredients, I can put together a batch of breadsticks in record time. That means it takes less time to make them than it would to order from most pizza places.

We have a lot of fun working together too.

4.  Thread 5 mini pepperoni slices on each skewer. Be sure to leave enough space between each slice for the pizza dough.

5.  Starting at the blunt end of the skewer, pierce the dough and spiral-wrap the strip around the pepperoni. Allow the meat to “peak” through. Finish off by piercing the dough onto the pointy end of the skewer.

Kitchen essentials for making pizza skewers:

Tips & tricks:

  • Use your favourite pizza dough recipe if you prefer it over the refrigerated kind. Homemade dough comes together in a flash with a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment.
  • Olive oil can be used in place of butter.
  • Leftover breadsticks are best if they are reheated in the oven. Place them on a large baking sheet lined with parchment or cooking spray. Heat oven to 250 and warm for ten minutes.

Other toppings & dips:

  • Combine some mozzarella cheese with the Parmesan for easy cheesy breadsticks.
  • Try making a Hawaiian pizza breadstick with ham and pineapple chunks. Really, any of your favourite pizza toppings can be used.
  • Use an Italian seasoning in place of the basil.
  • Extra garlic butter makes a delicious dipping sauce.
  • We love pizza sauce for dipping these pizza dough breadsticks, but you can use whatever tomato sauce your family likes best.
  • Make dessert breadsticks topped with cinnamon sugar and dipped in cream cheese frosting.

How to store:

These pizza breadsticks are best eaten the same day. If you do want to store leftovers, cover them tightly in plastic wrap or put them in an airtight container, keeping them refrigerated.

Next time you’re at the grocery store, pick up a couple of tubes of refrigerated pizza dough. You’ll be able to whip up several batches of breadsticks in no time.
