My favortite part of the entire carriage house project was designing this space. It is to be the place where Martin and I will retire to once the teenagers are old enough to be on their own in the main house (and not burn it down!)
So, knowing that we would eventually live here, we planned accordingly and upgraded many of our design elements and fixtures. It was also important to consider that the space would likely be used as a photography studio for content creation now and in the future.
Boho Studio Design & Decor
Many design decisions were based on having adequate natural light in the space for shooting beautiful photos. I also looked at where the best locations and backdrops would be for creating flat lays for food photography.
With these ideas in mind, it was important to keep our space light, bright and pleasing to the eye. We chose fixtures that are timeless yet had texture and shape.
I wove the decorations together using a neutral palette full of rattan, wood tones and textural elements. Pops of turquoise accents add depth and dimension to the space.
With subtle bohemian vibes, this 440 square foot space is a quiet sanctuary from the every day. Small in size does not mean a room needs to lack in personality and style.
Let’s go through the boho design and decorations room by room. You can get all of our Carriage House finds in my Amazon Storefront.

I think that just about covers it! If there is something that you see that I haven’t listed or linked up, please let me know and I’ll try to find it.
The intent with furnishing and decorating the studio is that I could use it for my photography and so that we could AirBNB it until it was time for us to move in. Unfortunately, with the current housing crisis in our province, the city of Kelowna has changed the bylaws so that we are no longer allowed to AirBNB the space.
While we look at other short term rental options, I will continue to use it for content creation while the kids use it for movie nights with friends. It’s been lovely having date nights up in the studio, away from our three teenage boys lol.
We’re also looking forward to using it as a guest house this summer and hosting friends and family for backyard barbecues and get togethers.
