Ingredients:
- Large pack of Oreos, 36 cookies
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 12 oz Red Candy Melts *
- Green M&Ms
- Pretzel sticks, broken into pieces
* Wilton red candy melts will never truly dry into a dark red color. If you would like a darker red color to your pretzel apples, try adding a drop of red gel food coloring to the melted chocolate.
Directions:
1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Place Oreos in the large bowl of a stand mixer with paddle attachment.
3. Mix at low speed until all of the Oreos are crushed into a fine crumb. Tip: a food processor or electric hand mixer can be used for this step too.
4. Add softened cream cheese to the mixing bowl.
5. Mix on medium speed until a soft dough forms. A rubber spatula can be used to scape down the edges of the bowl if needed.
6. Cover the mixture in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
7. Remove the dough from the fridge and roll a tablespoon-sized small ball. Tip: a small cookie scoop can help to get uniformly sized little balls.
8. Place the balls in the freezer for 1 hour to chill.
9. Melt the red candy melts using a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 15 to 30 second increments, checking and stirring each time so that the chocolate doesn’t burn.
Alternately, you can also use this new Wilton Chocolate Melting Pot that keeps the candy coating melted at the perfect temperature!
10. Remove the cake balls from the freezer and dip them in the melted chocolate. Tip: use a fork for dipping to help the excess coating drip from each ball.
A wire rack could also be used to allow the excess chocolate to drip from the balls.
11. Place cake balls on the prepared baking sheet and immediately press a piece of broken pretzel into the top of each ball.
12. Add a green M&M leaf beside the stem before the chocolate hardens, creating a cute apple shape.
13. Place the chocolate balls in the fridge and allow them to harden completely before serving.
How to store:
Store these yummy treats in a large freezer bag or airtight container at room temperature for a few hours. They can also be stored in the fridge or cool place for a week or in the freezer for up to three months.
Easily make this recipe into apple cake pops by adding a dab of melted chocolate to the end of a cake pop stick, placing the dipped end into the ball, and then dipping into the melted candy melts.

TIPS FOR MAKING THESE SWEET TREATS:
- Use Wilton candy melts for best results. The wafer chocolate melts the best. Add one teaspoon of coconut oil to other melted chocolate chips to help them melt and pour better.
- Lay the chocolate covered treat on a wax paper or parchment-lined baking sheet for easy moving and transporting before the chocolate has hardened.
- Place the chocolate balls in the fridge or freezer to completely cool before serving.
- Instead of using M&Ms, make tiny leaves out of green fondant.
