What are Haystacks?
Haystacks are easy cookies that are made of chow mein noodles, chocolate, and other common add-ins like peanuts, peanut butter, marshmallows, and festive sprinkles.

Crockpot Halloween Haystacks
Chow mein noodles, candy melts, peanut butter, and even candy eyeballs are easy to find in most grocery stores. Let me show you how to make these crunchy, sweet stacks of hay, covered in melted chocolate.
Plus, Iโll throw in some tips to make sure they turn out perfect every time!

Supplies Youโll Need
- Crockpotย โ What I love about using the crockpot is that it has a huge capacity for mixing all of the ingredients and cleanup is a breeze!
- Cupcake linersย โ Perfect for individual servings.
- Large cookie scoopย โ A large spoon works too!
- Parchment paperย or wax paper โ For easy drop-and-go cleanup.
- Airtight containerย โ For leftovers, if there are any!

Ingredients
- Chocolate candy melts โ Bright and festive, they create the sweet, colorful coating for the haystacks. Go with orange, purple, or green for Halloween vibes.
- Creamy peanut butter โ Adds rich, nutty flavor and helps make the candy mixture smooth and perfectly creamy. Crunchy or all-natural would work too!
- Chow mein noodles โ The crispy crunch in every bite that gives haystacks their signature texture.
- Candy eyes โ Silly edible eyeballs turn these treats into spooky little monsters that kids absolutely love.

Instructions
1. Add the candy melts to the crockpot and set it on low for 1 hour. Halfway through, toss in the creamy peanut butter.

2. Once the candy melts, give it another stir with a wooden spoon to make sure everythingโs well blended.

3. Stir in the chow mein noodles, making sure theyโre fully coated in the candy mixture.

4. Use a cookie scoop to drop spoonfuls of the mixture onto a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
5. Top with candy eyes for that spooky Halloween touch!
6. Pop the haystacks in the fridge for about an hour to set, and theyโre ready to go!

Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Halloween Haystacks
- Make sure your peanut butter is at room temperature to help it mix smoothly with the candy melts.
- Add Halloween sprinkles.
- If youโre not feeling the Halloween theme, try using white almond bark to make white chocolate haystacks for a wintery twist.
- Love butterscotch? Make butterscotch haystacks by swapping the candy melts with butterscotch chips for a tasty change.
- For extra texture, mix in some pretzels or nuts with your chow mein noodles.
- These haystacks are a hit during Christmastime too! Just switch up the colors and toppings.

How to Make Haystacks Without a Crockpot
Candy melts typically melt perfectly in a crockpot, but you can also melt them in a microwave. Heat them in 30-second increments, stirring in between, to make sure nothing clumps โ the smoother the mixture, the better the coating for your noodles.
The stove top also works, Melt the candy and peanut butter over medium heat in a glass bowl set over a large saucepan of simmering water. Again, stir until smooth, just like you would with the crockpot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use almond bark or chocolate chips instead of candy melts?
Yes! Almond bark, white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, or butterscotch chips all work well in this recipe. Just melt them slowly to avoid scorching.
Do Halloween haystacks need to be refrigerated?
Refrigerating helps them set faster, especially if your kitchen is warm. Once fully set, they can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container.
Can I make haystacks without peanut butter?
Absolutely! You can swap the peanut butter for cookie butter, sunflower seed butter, or leave it out entirely if desired.
Why are my haystacks falling apart?
This usually happens when there isnโt enough melted candy coating to fully cover the noodles. Stir thoroughly so every noodle gets coated evenly.
Can I add other mix-ins to haystacks?
Definitely! Mini marshmallows, pretzel pieces, peanuts, candy corn, festive sprinkles, or crushed cookies all make fun additions.
How far ahead can I make Halloween haystacks?
These treats are great for making ahead and usually stay fresh for up to 5 days when stored in an airtight container.
