Halloween Spaghetti Recipe

Fall is here, which means sweater weather, pumpkin spice everything, and (most importantly) Halloween will soon be upon us!

Halloween brings out the kid in me, though to be honest, I don’t think it takes much! I love the spooky decorations, making costumes with my boys, all the fun-sized treats, and our annual Hocus Pocus movie night.

If youโ€™ve been here a while, you already know my weakness for holiday-themed recipes. So, to get everyone into the Halloween spirit (and maybe gross out your kids just enough to make them giggle), Iโ€™ve cooked up a Halloween pasta recipe.

Part tasty dinner, part edible art project, this spooky pasta is a fun twist on classic spaghetti, but with giant eyeballs staring up at you!

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this post to your favorite board onย Pinterestย and it will be there when youโ€™re ready!

Why Youโ€™ll Love This Recipe

This easy Halloween pasta is perfect for kids, picky eaters, and anyone who loves a touch of whimsy with their dinner. Itโ€™s quick to make (we love a 30-minute meal), budget-friendly, and completely customizable.

Plus, with creepy mozzarella and olive eyeballs staring back at you, itโ€™s the kind of spooky spaghetti that will have everyone snapping pics before they take a bite.

Halloween Spaghetti Ingredients

Ingredients

  • Spaghetti noodles โ€“ The base for our creepy dinner.
  • Homemade pasta sauce โ€“ Rich, savory, and made with love (or just grab a jarโ€”no judgment!).
  • Lean ground beef, cooked (optional) โ€“ Adds hearty flavor for those who like their spaghetti meaty.
  • Bocconcini cheese balls โ€“ Our base for the eyeballs, this cheese is creamy, mild, and perfectly round.
  • Black olives, sliced โ€“ The โ€œpupilsโ€ that turn mozzarella balls into unblinking stares.

Variations

  • If your family doesn’t enjoy meat sauce, leave out the ground beef and serve your pasta with a simple marinara sauce instead.
  • Use your favorite store-bought pasta sauce instead of homemade.
  • Try squid ink pasta. The black pasta will add that extra Halloween touch.
  • Substitute green olives for the black olives.
  • Give the eyeballs a bloodshot look by adding a dot of pasta sauce onto each ball of mozzarella before adding the sliced black olives.
  • Instead of mozzarella eyeballs, make meatball eyeballs. You could also use string cheese that has been cut into small pieces.

Tips and Tricks

  • For an extra creepy twist, add 20โ€“25 drops of food coloring to your boiling pasta water. Green or purple noodles are perfect for a Halloween night dinner.
  • To create individual servings of eyeball spaghetti for a Halloween party, portion out your pasta and sauce into small bowls, then top each serving with one large eyeball or three small eyeballs. You could even make mini eyeball skewers!
  • Save time by using jarred marinara sauce and frozen meatballs.
  • Chill the bocconcini in cold water before assembling. This helps them hold their shape during a long Halloween party.
  • Drizzle a little olive oil over the eyeballs so they stay shiny and creepy instead of drying out.
  • Mix in some Halloween pasta shapes with the spaghetti for hidden surprises in every bite.
