Painted Rock Zombie Craft
This painted rock zombie craft is adorable and easy to create! Our kids loved making the whimsical zombie features.
We are huge fans of zombies around here! One year we all dressed up for Halloween as Plants Vs Zombies characters! We made a Cone Head Zombie Costume, a Plants vs Zombies Chomper Costume and a Plants vs Zombies Pea Shooter Costume.
We’ve even created tons of Plants Vs Zombies perler bead projects! Annnd had a Plants vs Zombies Birthday Party… so you could safely say we love our zombies. So lets get started on the latest zombie craft, shall we?!
How to make these painted rock zombies:
First you need to start with some rocks, clearly! I really like these flat river rocks for painting from Amazon. It can sometimes be hard to find the perfect flat rock for craft projects so these rocks make it easy! But if you want to go out rock hunting just be sure to wash the rocks that you find thoroughly before using them for your project.

Supplies needed:
- 2-3” oval rocks
- Black acrylic paint
- Green acrylic paint
- White acrylic paint
- Paintbrush
- Googly eyes (various sizes)
- Black pipe cleaner
- Hot glue gun
- Hot glue sticks
- Pencil
- Mod Podge (optional)
Gather your crafting supplies.
Paint the entire rock green. Tip: place a bit of putty on the back of the rock and stick it to your craft surface while painting. This helps to hold your rock steady. Allow the rock to completely dry.
Draw zombie features onto the rock (mouth, nose and wrinkles). Cut the pipe cleaner into 1” sections.
Paint the features black. Add white teeth if desired. Tip: use white puffy paint for added dimension! Seal with a coat of Mod Podge (optional).
Glue the googly eyes to the front of the rock. Tip: using two different sized eyes gives the zombie character! Bend three of the pipe cleaner pieces and glue to back of the rock.
Crafting essentials for kid crafts:
- We love using these Apple Barrel Acrylic Paints to add bright color to all of our projects.
- These paint brushes are ideal for most craft surfaces and a great price!
- This art supplies kit is our favorite because it has everything we needed to get started.
- This rolling storage cart helps to keep our craft supplies organized.
I seriously can’t get over how adorable these zombie rocks turned out!
