What is a Starbucks White Hot Chocolate made with?
The main ingredients in this hot chocolate recipe are milk, white chocolate and whipped cream. You can find everything you need at the grocery store at a fraction of the cost of daily drive through.
At Starbucks they use a white chocolate mocha sauce but it’s super easy to create our own at home!

How to make steamed milk at home:
One of my favorite parts of any drink, is the frothy milk. It’s easy to make steamed milk at home by simply heating the milk in the microwave and then whipping it with a milk frother or immersion blender.
I love, love, love my Keurig single serve coffee maker that comes with a built in frother. I’ve also used one of these all in one, milk frother and steamers which are a great option to have at home.
How to make a White Hot Chocolate:
Ingredients:
- White chocolate chips – this Ghirardelli brand is amazing!
- Milk, frothed – you can use half and half or heavy cream too.
- White chocolate syrup – totally optional but a great addition to this drink.
- Dairyland whipped cream, prepared – homemade whipped cream could be used as well.
Directions:
1. Steam the milk and place it in a small microwave safe bowl.
2. Add the chocolate chips and stir together.
3. Place in the microwave and heat at 15 second intervals, stirring until the chocolate is completely melted and incorporated into the milk.
4. Pour the milk chocolate mixture into a 16 oz mug. Top with a generous amount of whipped cream.
This gorgeous mug is one that my grandma hand made on her kiln.
For a more festive flavour profile simply add one pump of Torani peppermint syrup to the hot chocolate or sprinkle crushed peppermint candy canes on top.
Or add a splash of homemade baileys or rum to make a hot toddy, the perfect night cap for those chilly winter evenings.
I could honestly have this Starbucks copycat hot chocolate everyday! Especially if I were to make it sugar free with sugar-free white chocolate chips and homemade whipped cream.
What to serve with this hot chocolate:
- This keto cranberry bliss bar is my absolute favorite treat to pair with a good latte!
