We prefer to cook these on the smoker because the indirect heat is the best way to cook whole wings evenly and quickly. This cooking method also adds extra flavor to these bbq chicken wings.

Grilled Chicken Wings:

Ingredients:

  • 2lbs chicken wings
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce*
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce reserved for basting

Note: Any kind of BBQ sauce will work but we love this homemade barbecue sauce for all of our grilling. It combines brown sugar, ketchup and seasonings in a way that our whole family loves. Use your favorite bbq sauce or make our homemade sauce with simple ingredients from the grocery store.

Directions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, toss raw chicken wings in BBQ sauce.

2. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for an hour.

3. Preheat the grill to medium heat, 350 degrees F.

4. Place the chicken wings in a single layer on the grill, baste with BBQ sauce.

5. Flip the wings every 5 minutes, basting in between.

6. Cook for 25-30 mins or until the internal temperature reaches 170 degrees F when measured with a meat thermometer.

These grilled wings are best served with a side of french fries, dill & dijon potato salad or ranch dressing for dipping.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

  • Store leftovers in an air tight container in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Add a little bit of onion powder, chili powder, garlic powder, black pepper or cayenne pepper to the coated chicken before grilling to take them up a notch.
  • You could coat the wing tips with a spice rub before basting with BBQ sauce. We make our own dry rub for all of our smoked recipes.
  • Use olive oil to season your grill before cooking, this will help to prevent the chicken wings from sticking.
  • Optionally, line your grill with aluminum foil so that the wings don’t stick to the grill grates.
