I am always looking for quick and easy recipes that require minimal cleanup to make while camping. Anything that combines pizza and a tinfoil packet is a winner in my books.

My teen boys request this pizza bake on every tripโ€”we’re talking every. single. time. It’s become one of those camping meals we simply cannot skip.

Whether you’re camping in a tent, trailer, or backyard (because letโ€™s be honest, sometimes we just pretend weโ€™re camping), this is one of those camping recipes you’ll come back to again and again.

I love that this meal is so easy to prepare when we are camping in the wilderness! This recipe requires no special ingredients or tools to make. Simplicity is key here.

How to Make a Tinfoil Packet

  • Cut two pieces of aluminum foil large enough to cover the entire meal (about 12″). Layer them one on top of the other. Optional: spray the interior with nonstick spray or line with parchment paper.
  • Place recipe ingredients in the center. Bring up the longer edges of the foil and fold together. Grasp one end and roll it up, repeating with the other end.
  • Alternatively, foil pie plates may be used to cook foil packet meals. Simply place the recipe ingredients into the pie plate and cover with aluminum foil before cooking.
  • For best results, cook the foil packet on a grill over the open fire.
  • Use caution when handling the foil packet, as it can become hot while cooking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use other toppings besides pepperoni?
Absolutely! Load it up with green peppers, sausage, onion, or even pineapple if you like.

Can I cook this on a camp stove or propane grill?
Yes! A camp stove, BBQ grill, or even an RV oven works great. Just be sure to use indirect heat to prevent burning.

How do I avoid soggy bread or too much moisture?
Use less sauce or a thicker option like tomato paste, and avoid overloading with toppings that hold a lot of moisture, like fresh tomatoes.

What if I donโ€™t have French bread?
No problemโ€”use naan, pita bread, or pre-made pizza dough wrapped around your fillings for a pizza pocket vibe.
