Hot dogs tend to get a bad rap, but I think they make the perfect summer meal. Actually, they are pretty great any time of year.

There is something so comforting about eating a perfectly cooked hot dog on a toasted bun.

Sometimes I want a bit more than the traditional hot dog with ketchup and yellow mustard. Because of that, our family has tried all kinds of variations, like Chicago and New York style, a Coney Island hot dog, and even a Mexican version.

Chili cheese dogs are always delicious too!

Hot Dog Taquitos

Today I am sharing yet another version with you. This easy recipe for tortilla hot dogs is great mashup of two already awesome foods and makes for a fun alternative to the usual taco night.

They are a bit like hot dog taquitos. Instead of using hot dog buns, the dogs are wrapped in soft tortilla shells, layered with gooey cheese, and toasted to a beautifully golden brown.

Served with a handful of tortilla chips or corn chips on the side, your whole family is going to love them.

Tips and Tricks

  • To get the best results with this simple recipe, use quality ingredients, like all-beef hot dogs.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure that the hot dogs are cooked thoroughly.
  • If you can’t find the mini tortillas, cut large ones in half. Then use half of the tortilla for each layer.
  • Leftover hot dogs may be cooled and then stored in an airtight container for up to one week in the fridge. You can microwave hot dogs to reheat them to use for later.
