How to make lemon salmon:
Ingredients:
- 3 pounds salmon fillets
- 1 lemon, zested and sliced
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp chipotle mango seasoning
- 2 tsp garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried parsley
Directions:
1. Place the salmon on a cutting board, skin side down.
2. Use needle nose pliers to pull out large bones (optional).
3. Sprinkle the fillet with sugar, seasoning and garlic.
4. Top with lemon zest.
5. Slice lemon thinly and place lemon slices on the salmon.
6. Sprinkle with parsley.
7. Heat the bar-b-que grill to medium-high heat of 400 degrees F.
8. Place salmon fillets skin side down on the grill for 25 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 125 degrees F.
How to test for doneness:
The trick to achieving moist salmon is to not overcook it. It’s done when the flesh is opaque and springy to the touch.
Tip: don’t worry about the sides or bottom of the salmon burning as the skin acts as a protective barrier. It’s absolutely delicious!
We love this paired with grilled vegetables like fresh green beans or asparagus topped with cheese sauce. I am a salmon loving convert after tasting this yummy recipe for the first time.
Tips and Tricks:
- Bake times will vary, depending on the size and thickness of your salmon. Keep a close eye on it to prevent dry salmon.
- Always use the thickest part of the fillet when checking for doneness.
- If you are more comfortable using the oven method of cooking, try an easy baked salmon. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or a large piece of foil, brushed with olive oil. Then continue with the recipe as written.
- This great main dish can also easily be made as a foil packet meal.
- For even more lemon flavour, line a large sheet of aluminium foil or baking dish with extra lemon slices before adding the cut fillets.
We’ve experimented with a few variations, one of which I will be sharing as soon as I can take photos of it. It’s an orange ginger take on this recipe that I think you guys will love as much as I do. Update: try this orange ginger salmon recipe!

What to serve with salmon:
