  1. Serve with garlic bread.

Alternative Ingredients:

  • Use ribeye steak, skirt steak, leftover roast beef, or even ground beef.
  • Try adding worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, or onion powder.
  • I like to use a mix of red and green peppers but you could also throw in some banana peppers for a little spice.
  • Instead of garlic bread, serve the steak mixture with cauliflower rice, on hoagie rolls, or in lettuce cups.
  • Make keto Philly cheesesteak stuffed peppers with the filling instead.
  • Serve cheesesteak sandwiches with a small bowl of beef broth or au jus for dipping.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If you are making this easy meal at home, put all of the ingredients into a baking dish or cast iron skillet and cook for 30 minutes at 350 F.
  • You can also cook the filling on the stove top over medium heat in a large skillet.  Check out this recipe for more details!
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container and keep them refrigerated.

I love tinfoil packet meals for the ease of cooking and clean up while camping. We make tinfoil packet loaded cauliflowerbutter chicken, and campfire spinach dip all the time!

  • Do your meal prep in advance whenever possible. Leave most of the mess at home, where running water is more accessible and clean up is easier. Trust me on this one!
  • Create “one pot” family style meals for quick dinners that don’t require a lot of thought.
  • Use tinfoil packets, foil pie pans, or camp cookers. These tools help to make cleanup a breeze!
  • Pack ingredients in 1 gallon size ziploc bags for flexible storage in small fridges and coolers.
  • Plan meals that use similar ingredients to help make packing and planning easy.

While we do love eating this tinfoil packet philly cheesesteak recipe with garlic bread, half of the time we eat this straight out of the tinfoil. It is just THAT GOOD!

  • Cut two pieces of aluminum foil large enough to cover the entire meal (about 12″). Layer them one on top of the other. Optional: spray the interior with non stick spray or line with parchment paper.
  • Place recipe ingredients in the center. Bring up the longer edges of the foil and fold together. Grasp one end and roll it up, then repeat with the other end.
  • Alternatively, foil pie plates may be used to cook foil packet meals. Simply place the recipe ingredients into the pie plate and cover with aluminum foil before cooking.
  • For best results, cook the foil packet on a grill over the open fire.
  • Use caution when handling the foil packet as it can become hot while cooking.
