This recipe uses simple ingredients from the grocery store to make the most delicious, melty cheese burgers! Let me show you how…
Grilled cheese burgers
Ingredients:
- Burger patties, cooked*
- White bread, sliced
- Salted butter, room temperature
- Cheddar cheese, sliced
- Bread and butter pickles
*Use your favorite burger patties to create this grilled cheese recipe. We recommend these smoked burgers or this homemade burger pattie recipe.
Instructions
1. Spread butter generously over one side of each slice of bread.
2. Slice the burger patties in half thinly.
3. Place a large skillet on the stovetop and preheat over medium-high heat.
4. Place one piece of bread, butter side down on the hot griddle.
5. Layer the bread with a slice of cheese, half a pattie, slice of cheese, half a pattie and a slice of cheese.
6. Top with another piece of bread, butter side facing out.
7. Grill the cheese burger for about 3-4 minutes on each side.
Tip: check the bread for doneness frequently so that it doesn’t burn. Flip the sandwich when the first side reaches a crispy, golden hue.
8. Use a spatula to press the sandwich together and combine the melty layers.
9. Slice each of the grilled cheeseburgers in half and top with pickles.
This easy recipe makes 4 burger grilled cheese sandwiches.
Tips & Tricks
- Add mayonaisse, mustard or special sauce to the bread before toasting.
- Use garlic powder, worcestershire sauce, black pepper or onion powder to add more flavour to the beef patty.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container or covered in plastic wrap for up to five days.
- Instead of bread use hamburger buns.
How long do you cook hamburger patties?
- Hamburgers can be cooked in a slow cooker on high for 5 hours or low for 7-9 hours.
- Patties may be placed in an air fryer basket and cooked for 5-6 minutes at 350 degrees F.
- Hamburger patties can be cooked on the gas grill grate or charcoal grill for 8-10 minutes.
- Smoked hamburgers take 2 hours to cook when smoked at 165 degrees F.
- Baked hamburgers in the oven take about 25 minutes at 350 degrees F.
- In a large skillet, cook juicy burger patties on medium heat for 7-9 minutes.
- Use a food thermometer to make sure that the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F.

Topping Suggestions
- Change up the cheese! You could use slices of pepper-jack cheese, cheddar cheese, mozzarella or provolone cheese.
