Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce Recipe

I have a keto teriyaki sauce recipe to share with you all today. Because we love Japanese food so much, when I began my keto journey, I knew that I was going to need to find a sugar-free teriyaki sauce recipe that the whole family would love, but that would still fit into my new way of eating.

Too busy to make this right away? Pin it for later! Pin this post to your favorite board on Pinterest and it will be there when you’re ready!

This recipe is the winner. This sweet sauce makes a great marinade for your favorite meat and is delicious in stir fries. For those of us who are following a low carb or keto diet, it is also a great alternative to a traditional teriyaki sauce.

The quality and variety of low carb and keto product options has come a long way in recent years, but I still like to make a lot of my own sauces from scratch. Unlike store-bought sauces, making your own sauces, like this homemade teriyaki sauce, allows you to have total control over what ingredients go into your food.

And they are really easy to make!

Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients

Keto Teriyaki Sauce:

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp Swerve brown sugar substitute
  • 10 Tbsp coconut aminos **can sub soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp red wine
  • 2 Tbsp Lakanto sugar-free syrup **can sub SF syrup of choice
  • 1 Tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp xanthan gum
  • 1 tbsp water
Sugar Free Teriyaki Sauce Process

I like to use coconut aminos and Lakanto sugar-free syrup. You can substitute regular soy sauce or tamari sauce for the liquid aminos. However, soy can cause inflammation and is not a strict keto ingredient.

Lakanto is my favorite syrup because it is sweetened with monk fruit, but you can use any sugar-free syrup you like.

Directions:

1. Mix the water and xanthan gum in a small bowl until well combined.

2. Combine the remaining ingredients in a small saucepan, cooking over medium heat, until they come to a boil.

3. Remove from the heat and whisk in xanthan gum.

4. Bring to a boil once more, whisking constantly, until the sauce starts to thicken.

5. Remove from heat and set aside.

6. Pour into an airtight container, like a mason jar, for later use.

Note: This sugar-free teriyaki sauce is great for using as a marinade on chicken wings, chicken thighs, or chicken drumsticks.

Tips and Tricks:

  • If you want to add a little spice to your sauce, try some red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Swerve is my favorite sugar substitute, but you can use any brown sugar sweetener substitute that you prefer.
  • Use a combination of soy sauce and coconut aminos if you want.

More Tips for Keto Cooking:

  • Find low carb substitutions for your current favorite recipes. Try cauliflower instead of perogies or radishes instead of potatoes.
  • Maintain a healthy balance of protein and fats. Sometimes it’s hard to get enough fat and/or protein in a ketogenic diet, so be sure to include a balance of both in your dishes.
  • Plan ahead and use tools like this Meal Planning Printable to reach maximum success.
  • Find recipes that you love, like this Bacon Cheeseburger Casserole, Taco Bake, and Hamburger Soup, and use them in your weekly rotation.
  • Be sure to stock the kitchen with helpful tools like this food scale, these measuring cups, and a Kitchen Aid mixer.
