Making your own burger patties is actually super easy! The entire family is sure to love this classic burger recipe. Let me show you how…

Ingredients

Here are a few of the basic grocery store staples that you will need to get started with this easy recipe.

  • Lean ground beef – Costco has the best deal on ground beef, I buy a large pack at least once a month.
  • White onion, finely diced.
  • Eggs – we’re currently loving farm fresh eggs!
  • Bread crumbs – Panko works great here.
  • We love this homemade hamburger seasoning.
  • Worcestershire sauce – dare you to say that three times fast!
  • This homemade barbecue sauce is our go-to!
  • Cheese – choose your favorite.

Instructions

1. Gather all of the ingredients.

2. In a large bowl combine ground meat and eggs.

3. Add onion, breadcrumbs and seasoning.

4. Mix until well combined.

5. Use a kitchen scale to weigh out 5 oz balls from the meat mixture.

6. Form the balls into patties by hand or use a pattie press.

7. Brush each pattie with a generous layer of barbecue sauce.

8. Place the patties on a grill preheated to 425 degrees F.

9. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted in the center reads 160 degrees F.

10. Flip half way through cooking and top each burger with a slice of provolone cheese.

11. Serve each burger on a fresh hamburger bun with a generous serving of BBQ sauce.

Tips and Tricks

  • 1 pound of ground pork may be added to the ground beef.
  • Homemade barbecue sauce can be substituted for Worchestershire sauce.
  • Panko breadcrumbs are our favorite binding agent but crushed crackers may be used instead.
  • Add additional onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper or kosher salt to taste.
  • Store in a single layer or between sheets of parchment paper.

How long do you cook hamburger patties?

  • Hamburgers can be cooked in a slow cooker on high for 5 hours or low for 7-9 hours.
  • Patties may be placed in an air fryer basket and cooked for 6-7 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  • Hamburger patties can be cooked on the gas grill grate or charcoal grill for 8-10 minutes.
  • Smoked hamburgers take 2 hours to cook when smoked at 165 degrees F.
  • Baked hamburgers in the oven take about 25 minutes at 350 degrees F.
  • In a large skillet, cook juicy burger patties on medium-high heat for 7-9 minutes.
  • Use a food thermometer to make sure that the internal temperature reaches 160 degrees F.

Serve these on fresh hamburger buns and add your favorite toppings! A great burger is always made better with a side of french fries, pasta salad or potato chips.

Topping Suggestions

  • Change up the cheese! You could use cheddar cheese, mozzarella or swiss.
  • Top with crispy bacon, a fried egg, bell pepper or slice of red onion.
  • Add skillet fried mushrooms, a slice of tomato or lettuce.
  • Top with 1 Tbsp of garlic butter to the center of each patty.
