Chocolate Oreo Cookie Recipe
Today’s recipe makes the best chocolate Oreo cookies ever. They are incredibly easy, delicious, and perfectly chewy and have quickly become our favorite Oreo cookie dessert.
We are huge fans of Oreo cookies around here, so when we discovered that Oreo was turning 110 years old, we had to celebrate! Did you know these rich chocolate cookies were first sold on March 6th, 1912, by the National Biscuit Company to a grocery store in Hoboken, New Jersey?

I love how easy these copycat Crumbl Oreo cookies are to make! They only require a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen or can easily find at the grocery store.

The star ingredient of this chocolate cookie recipe is the mini Oreo cookies! They’re crushed and mixed into vanilla frosting to create a decadent icing for these chewy cookies.
Chocolate Oreo Cookie Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ cup cocoa (If you can find it, try black cocoa powder. It really enhances the Oreo flavor.)
- ⅓ cup butter
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup chocolate chips (Semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate chips all work.)
- 1 cup vanilla frosting
- ½ cup Oreo mini cookies
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set to the side.
2. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together on medium speed until light brown. This can be done in the bowl of a stand mixer or with a hand mixer.
3. Once combined, add the egg and vanilla and beat on high for 3-4 minutes.
4. Turn the mixer to low speed and slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, then after 1 minute, turn the mixer up to high and mix until combined. Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed.
5. Add chocolate chips and stir with a rubber spatula until mixed thoroughly.
6. Use a cookie scoop to make evenly sized cookie dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
7. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees F, or until the top of the cookie is set.
8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for five minutes, then transfer the baked cookies to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
9. In a small bowl, crush about 8 mini Oreo cookies and fold into the frosting.
Tip: be sure to crush the Oreos finely, so that the frosting can be piped onto the cookies. A food processor works well for this. Crushed regular Oreos or Oreo cookie crumbs would work too.
10. Scoop the frosting into a piping bag fitted with a 1A piping tip and cover each cookie with the frosting.
Tip: a plastic bag with a corner of the bag cut off works too!
11. Top each cookie with more crushed Oreo pieces. The more Oreos, the better, in our opinion!
This recipe makes 8-10 chewy chocolate Oreo cookies that can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week at room temperature. But these easy homemade Oreo cookies probably won’t last that long!
