We are huge fans of Oreo cookies around here so when we discovered that Oreo was turning 110 years old soon, we had to celebrate! The delicious cookie was first sold on March 6th, 1912 by the National Biscuit Company to a grocery store in Hoboken, New Jersey.
I love how easy these chocolate oreo cookies are to make! They only require a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen or can easily find at the grocery store.
We also love these mint chocolate chip cookies, these peppermint dipped chocolate cookies and these three-ingredient peanut butter cookies. They are some of our favorite treats so be sure to check them out!
The star ingredient of this chocolate cookie recipe is the mini oreo cookies! They’re crushed and mixed with vanilla frosting to create a decadent icing for these chewy cookies.
Chocolate Oreo Cookie Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup flour
- ½ tsp baking soda
- ¼ cup cocoa
- ⅓ cup butter
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup vanilla frosting
- ½ cup oreo mini cookies
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set to the side.
2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar.
3. Using a stand or electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar on medium speed until light brown. Once combined, add the egg and extract and beat on high for 3-4 minutes.
4. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and turn the mixer on low speed to start, then after 1 minute turn the mixer up to high and mix until combined.
5. Add chocolate chips and stir with a rubber spatula until mixed throughly.
6. Use a cookie scoop to make even cookie dough balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
7. Bake for 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees f, or until the top of the cookie is set.
8. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for five minutes then transfer the baked cookies to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
9. In a small bowl, crush about 8 mini oreo cookies and fold into the frosting.
Tip: be sure to crush the oreos finely so that the frosting can be piped onto the cookies. Crushed regular sized oreo cookies or oreo cookie crumbs would work too.
10. Scoop the frosting into a piping bag with 1A tip and cover each cookie with the frosting.
11. Top each cookie with more crushed oreo cookie pieces. The more oreos the better in our opinion!
This recipe makes 8-10 chewy chocolate oreo cookies that can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week at room temperature. But these easy homemade oreo cookies probably won’t last that long!

These are the best cookies because they have all the flavour of homemade oreos, using the cream filling as a frosting, with a delicious chocolate base. These chocolate oreo cookies are perfect when paired with vanilla ice cream or served on holiday baking trays.
What is the secret to soft cookies?
- Underbaking the cookies is the secret to softness. Do not overbake!
- You can also use cornstarch in the dough to add softness and thickness like these Snickerdoodle Cookies.
