How do You Fold a Foil Packet?

  • For the best results, start by pulling the top and bottom of the aluminum foil to meet in the center.
  • Fold the two edges together tightly along the entire length. A 1-2″ overlap is ideal.
  • Finally, seal the edges by rolling up the ends of each piece of tin foil to create a packet.

These foil dinners may be cooked in the oven or on the charcoal grill. The directions in the recipe card below are for baking in the oven.

If you would prefer grilling, simply preheat the grill to 400 degrees, place foil packets on the grill grates, and cook for 8-10 minutes.

  • Small yellow gold potatoes, halved โ€“ Naturally buttery and tender, these potatoes cook beautifully and soak up all the savory flavors.
  • Cheddar cheese, shredded โ€“ Rich and melty, it creates that irresistible gooey layer that ties the whole meal together.
  • Slices of bacon, cooked โ€“ Adds smoky, crispy goodness and infuses the entire packet with bold flavor.
  • Fresh parsley, garnish โ€“ A fresh, vibrant garnish that brightens the dish and adds a pop of color right before serving.

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

2. Cut up the potatoes and slice the chicken.

Tip: You can throw the chicken in a mixing bowl with the seasoning, but cleanup is much easier if you do it all on the foil sheet.

3. Cook the bacon in a frying pan.

4. Place potatoes in a medium bowl and microwave for 3-4 minutes so that they are slightly cooked. This helps to create tender potatoes done to perfection at the same time as our chicken.

5. Divide the ingredients equally onto four pieces of aluminum foil (about 12โ€ long).

6. Layer potatoes, chicken, cheese, and bacon, then sprinkle the ranch seasoning equally over top.

7. Fold aluminum foil into a packet.

8. Place the sealed packet directly onto the wire racks in the oven.

9. Cook for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is completely cooked.

Tip:ย Chicken is done when a meat thermometer inserted into the center of thickest part of the meat reads 160 degrees F. Cook time depends on the size of your chicken breasts, so be sure to cut the chicken into equal pieces for even cooking.

10. Move to a flat surface and open packets carefully.
