Here’s How to Make a Tinfoil Packet

  • Cut two pieces of aluminum foil large enough to cover the entire meal (about 12″). Layer the sheets of foil one on top of the other. Optional: spray the interior with non-stick cooking spray or line with parchment paper.
  • Place recipe ingredients in the center. Bring up the longer sides of the foil and fold together. Grasp one end and roll it up, repeating with the other end. A 2-inch fold is ideal.
  • Alternatively, foil pie plates may be used to cook foil packet meals. Simply place the recipe ingredients into the pie plate and cover with aluminum foil before cooking.
  • For best results, cook the foil packet on a grill over the open fire.
  • Use caution when handling the foil packet, as it can become hot while cooking.

  1. I loved your Loaded Potatoes! My husband greatly enjoyed it! I just have a quick question, how do you keep it from burning? I used the parchment paper idea, and precooked the potatoes so they didn’t have to go as long. But my edges got burned. It happens as well when I cook with veggies. Sometimes the top is still uncooked but the bottom is burned. Any suggestions? Or maybe you have covered this in a different article that I missed?

    1. Good question! To prevent burning you could do a few things. 1. Make sure that there is enough butter/oil in your packet. 2. Be sure to cook in the coals of the fire (not open flame) or 3. Cook on a grill over low/medium heat. Hope this helps!
